Tour Overview

Nyerere National Park (formerly part of the famous Selous Game Reserve) is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest protected national park in Africa. Unlike other northern parks, Nyerere offers unique safari activities including sunset boat safaris on the vast Rufiji River to observe wild hippos and crocodiles, walking bush safaris with armed rangers, and 4x4 game drives tracking wild dogs, lions, leopards, and giant elephant herds.

3-Day Safari Itinerary

Day 1

Flight from Zanzibar & Sunset Rufiji River Boat Safari

Pick-up from your hotel in Zanzibar and transfer to Zanzibar Airport. Board your morning flight (approx. 45-minute flight) to Mtemere Airstrip in Nyerere National Park. Meet your safari guide and transfer to your luxury tented lodge for check-in and lunch. In the late afternoon, embark on a thrilling sunset boat safari along the Rufiji River, getting up close to hippos, Nile crocodiles, and diverse water birds.

Day 2

Full Day 4x4 Game Drive in Nyerere Park

After an early breakfast, set out on a full-day game drive in a open-top 4x4 land cruiser. Explore diverse landscapes from riverine forests and palm groves to open savannas. Track lions, leopards, African wild dogs, giraffes, buffaloes, and wildebeests. Enjoy a hot or packed picnic lunch inside the park near one of the scenic oxbow lakes before returning to the camp for dinner around the campfire.

Day 3

Morning Walking Bush Safari & Flight Back to Zanzibar

Start the morning with an authentic walking safari guided by an experienced armed park ranger. Learn about animal tracks, medicinal plants, insects, and birdlife on foot. Return to camp for breakfast, check-out, and transfer to Mtemere Airstrip for your flight back to Zanzibar. Arrive in Zanzibar and transfer back to your resort.
